Why Cod and Potatoes Are a Perfect Match

Cod’s mild, flaky texture pairs beautifully with potatoes, which absorb flavors and add heartiness. Baked together, they create a balanced dish that’s comforting without being heavy, making this recipe a timeless favorite across many coastal cuisines.

Ingredients

  • 500g cod fillets, skin removed

  • 3 medium potatoes, thinly sliced

  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced

  2. Drizzle with melted butter and olive oil.

  3. Pour milk or cream evenly over the dish.

  1. Remove from oven and let rest for 5 minutes.

  2. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve warm.

Tips for the Best Cod ’n Tater Bake

  • Slice potatoes thinly so they cook evenly.

  • Avoid over-salting the cod—it’s naturally briny.

  • Add cheese carefully: A light sprinkle enhances flavor without overpowering the fish.

  • Rest before serving to allow the sauce to set.
